Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Broadcaster, Art Hains, has been the “Voice of the Missouri State Bears” from 1977-81 and every year since 1985 and has hosted a nightly, two-hour sports talk show since 1995. The Marshall, Missouri native is a broadcast journalism graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. From 1981-85, he worked at Dallas radio station KRLD and hosted the Cowboys pre- and post-game shows. During that time, he also served as studio host for the Southwest Conference Radio Network, took part in SMU football and basketball game broadcasts, and PGA Tour event coverage in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.In 35 years, Hains has called over 2,000 MSU games including 6 NCAA basketball tournament appearances and the 2003 College World Series.
Wyatt Wheeler currently serves as the lone sports reporter at the Springfield News-Leader and has done so since August 2017.The Hudson, Illinois native has a journalism degree from Missouri State University. Since becoming the News-Leader’s lone sports reporter, Wheeler has covered every big-time event Southwest Missouri has to offer — ranging from Missouri State’s major NCAA Tournament and playoff appearances, high school athletics state championships, the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions and nationally-televised golf events in the Branson area. Throughout his young career, Wheeler has been one of the state’s most recognized sportswriters. He was named Missouri’s best sports columnist during the 2021 Better Newspaper Contest.
