ESPN the Jock and the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks Team Up For Heartbeat Hero Blood Drive
ESPN the Jock is joining the Community Blood Center in encouraging all healthy donors who are at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds to give the Gift of Life in the month of September with the Heartbeat Hero Blood Drive.
Throughout the month, the Jock and our Zimmer radio stations in Springfield will highlight some of the following blood drives on air, and even have a presence on site at those drives to encourage donations.
Can I give blood? Anyone who is at least 16 years old (with parental consent form available HERE), weighs at least 110 pounds and who is in good health may give blood every 56 days.
Certain medications and/or medical conditions may prevent someone from donating blood temporarily or in some cases, permanently.
Why is this so important?
Did you know it takes around 200 blood donations every single day to meet the needs of our friends, family, and neighbors across 41 counties in southwest Missouri, northwest Arkansas, and southeast Kansas? That’s a lot of lives depending on us! And there’s no artificial substitute for blood, so it’s up to the Ozarks, and people like you and me to keep our hospitals stocked with this precious resource. It’s amazing to think that a single blood donation can help save up to three lives—how cool is that?
A few facts to blow your mind:
- 1 in 7 patients entering a hospital will need blood. That’s a huge number!
- About 25% of the blood supply is used by patients battling cancer. You could be giving someone a fighting chance.
- Your donation stays local, helping patients right here in our community.
Here’s what you need to do to become a Heartbeat Hero:
- Hydrate & Eat Well: Drink water and have a good meal before you donate.
- Bring Your ID: Make sure you have a photo ID with you.
- Skip the Wait: Avoid any wait time by making an appointment at cbco.org and filling out a Quick Pass on the day of your donation.
Why Now? All donors in September will receive a limited edition T-shirt and a voucher for TWO FREE general admission tickets to the Dickerson Park Zoo (a $34 value). It’s the perfect way to say “thanks” for giving life to our community!
Ready to roll up your sleeve?
To schedule your appointment, call 417-227-5006, click on the “Schedule Donation Time Here” link above, or visit cbco.org. Most donations take less than an hour—but that hour could mean the world to someone in need.
Let’s show up and show out for our communities throughout the Ozarks. Be a Heartbeat Hero and give the gift that keeps on giving! 🩸❤️
Feel free to share this with your friends and family—let’s spread the word and make this the best blood drive yet!
