COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri swimming and diving freshman Ethan Vance has been named to the 2024-25 U.S. National Junior Team, as announced by the sport’s governing body on Friday. This is Vance’s first year being selected for the team.
On August 3, Vance competed at the YMCA National Long Course Championships, earning a first-place finish in the final round of the men’s 50-meter freestyle with a time of 22.87. He eclipsed the 18U national record in the 50 free with a preliminary round mark of 22.69.
The Osage Beach, Mo., native also earned a first-place finish in the 50-meter fly at the YMCA National Long Course Championships on August 2. Vance won the competition with a personal best of 24.40 in the final round.
At the same meet, Vance placed second in the 100-meter free with a personal-best time of 52.34. In the 100-meter fly final, Vance earned a third-place finish and a personal-best time of 56.66.
A Camdenton High School product, Vance ranked second in the state of Missouri for the 2024 recruiting class.
The U.S. National Junior Team is comprised of the four athletes with the fastest times in each Individual Olympic Event, from the combined results of a USA Swimming-sanctioned competition or a World Aquatics-approved competition between January 2024 to September 2024.
