SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State’s Logan Fyffe and Curry Sutherland were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division I South All-Region Second Team on Tuesday. The South Region includes 28 schools from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri.
Missouri State’s A.E. “Ted Willis” Team MVP this season, Fyffe led Conference USA with a .359 batting average, hitting 21 doubles and nine home runs with 43 RBIs and a .592 slugging percentage as a first-team all-league pick. The sophomore shortstop from Springfield, Ohio, led the Bears with 22 multi-hit games and put together a pair of 11-plus game hitting streaks on the year.
Sutherland started all 55 games for the Bears this year, batting .307 with 16 homers, 54 RBIs and a .610 slugging percentage while earning All-CUSA First Team honors. In addition to being Mo State’s everyday third baseman, the Rogersville, Mo., product also went 2-0 with two saves on the mound, striking out 19 batters in 14 innings. He was one of 15 semifinalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award.
