Missouri State All CUSA performers Curry Sutherland and Max Knight will return for their final seasons of baseball at Missouri State. That’s after neither were drafted over the weekend during the MLB draft. Sutherland, a third baseman from Rogersville High School led the Bears in Home Runs this season, while Knight was the winningest pitcher for the team. Both players were getting recognized as two of the best two-way performers in college baseball for their work offensively and on the mound.

Meanwhile Caden Bogenpohl was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round (64th overall) of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.

The pick makes Bogenpohl the seventh-highest draft player in program history behind six previous first-round selections, the highest pick since Jeremy Eierman (2nd/70) in 2018, and the highest-drafted outfielder ever from Mo State.

The 6-6 outfielder from Jackson, Mo., led Conference USA with 52 walks as a junior in 2026 and set Missouri State’s career record with 160 free passes, breaking Bill Mueller’s long-standing mark in 59 fewer games than the 2003 American League batting champion.

Bogenpohl owns the Nos. 1, 3 and 4 single-season walk totals at Mo State in addition to ranking seventh in school history in runs scored (180), ninth in on-base percentage (.441) and 12th with 39 home runs, showing off his prodigious power at the MLB Draft Combine in Phoenix last month.

For his Missouri State career, Bogenpohl played in 165 games over three seasons, batting .288 with 75 extra-base hits and a .977 OPS. He set the season walk record at 55 in 2025, and broke Ryan Howard’s freshman home run record with 20 in 2024.

Bogenpohl is the 123rd draft pick in program history.
