BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tyler Freiner of the Missouri Cross Country team was named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Freiner, a junior, finished first individually at the Mizzou XC Opener with a time of 18:23.7. He paced the Tigers as the team won its opening meet at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, home of the 2025 NCAA Championship.

The season-opening race marked the first cross country meet for the Wentzville, Mo. native since redshirting this past indoor and outdoor season, earning his first collegiate win in his return. Freiner is the first Tiger to be recognized for the award since Thomas George on October 9, 2019.

The Mizzou cross country team continues its season on Friday, September 13 at the Spike Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State. MU will return to compete at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Sept. 27 for the Gans Creek Invitational.
