Drury Wrestling Set for 46th Annual Midwest Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury wrestling heads to Indianapolis for the 46th annual Midwest Classic, hosted by Indianapolis, on Dec. 13-14.

The Midwest Classic is one of the largest NCAA Division II wrestling tournaments in the country. This year’s event consists of 49 Division II teams, 19 of which were ranked in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings. The event spans two days, with the championships taking place on Dec. 14.

At last year’s Midwest Classic, Drury placed 27th out of 43 teams with 11 wins. Will Kuster was the only medalist for the Panthers, finishing seventh in the 165-pound bracket.

Drury has competed in the Midwest Classic eight times and has earned a total of 100 wins. The Panthers have had two all-time champions: Blake Clevenger at 149 and Jared Rennick at 197, both in 2018.

In open events this season, Drury has had one champion and numerous second-place finishes. Mason Knight won the 149-pound bracket at the Drury Open, and Bryson Humphries, Jeremiah Halter, Brady Griffin, and Gaven Bremenkamp all placed second. At the Kaufman Brand Bayly, Humphries placed second, and Halter finished fourth.

  • Freshman Mason Knight is at 10 wins with four falls and two technical falls at 149 pounds.
  • Brady Griffin and Garrett Salt are both at nine wins this season.
  • Griffin leads the team with six falls at 285 pounds.
  • Salt has two falls and three technical falls at 141 pounds.
  • Gaven Bremenkamp has seven wins, five of which were from falls at 165 pounds.
  • Dylan Roth and Nate Brower each have six wins.
