Panthers start their 2024 campaign in Minnesota
The Drury Panthers open their 2024 season against two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponents, Northern State and Bemidji State.
The Panthers return six all-conference players from the 2023 season, Andrea Camargo, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Defender of the Year, Kourtney Tucker (First Team), Tara Simon (First Team), Elsa Gonzalez (Third Team), Ines Villanueva Casal (Third Team), and Audrey Camargo (Third Team). Drury will have a new face in net for this 2024 season, as GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year, Kaitlin Knetzke graduated. Throughout the spring season and fall camp, it has been a competition between three returners, Keva Culkin, Katy Fitzler, and Taylor Thompson, for who will take the net in the opener against Northern State.
Drury opens the season with Northern State who finished the 2023 season with a 9-4-5, 8-1-5 NSIC record. This season the Wolves were voted to finish seventh in the conference preseason poll. Senior, Megan Fastenau, was named the conference Preseason Player of the Year. The Wolves also had Alexus Townsend named to the preseason watch list. Fastenau finished fifth in the conference, last season, in points with 17 in 18 games played.
The Panthers close the opening weekend against Bemidji State who was selected to finish third in the NSIC preseason poll. The Beavers finished last season 13-4-6, 7-3-4 in conference play. BSU won their second consecutive conference tournament in 2023 to earn the automatic bid into their third straight NCAA tournament. Maria Stocke and Emma Huelsnitz were tabbed as players to watch for the Beavers this season by conference coaches.
After the road trip to Minnesota, the Panthers open play in Harrison Stadium with Maryville, Sept. 13, and UMSL, Sept. 15.
