On the Pitch

  • The Missouri State Bears will face Southern Illinois at Edwardsville at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25 at home. Admission is free.
  • Last season, the Bears defeated the Cougars 2-0 on a road trip to Edwardsville. These teams have not met in Springfield since Sep. 16, 2016 when the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • MoState is on a home unbeaten streak of 11 matches. Their last loss in Springfield was against Murray State on Oct. 6, 2022.
  • The Bears picked up their first win of the 2024 campaign with a result of 1-0 against Tulsa on Aug. 18th. MoState fired off 24 shots with 13 on-goal compared to Tulsa’s 11 with three on-goal.
  • Goalkeeper Camielle Day made three saves against the Golden Hurricane for her 20th career shutout. She moves into third in school history behind Alexis Stormo (2001-04) with 24 and Jackie Jasper (2005-08) with 27.
  • With that win, head coach Kirk Nelson had his 25th career win since taking over the program. Nelson has also led the team to 25 shutouts.
  • The Bears are coming off of a record-breaking season. In 2023, MoState went 12-2-5 with a 7-0-3 record in conference play. The team had its highest-ever winning percentage at .763 overall and .850 in the MVC.
  • The Bears’ defense broke five season records last year with fewest goals allowed (8), fewest saves (57), most road wins (6), most shutouts (13) and most consecutive shutouts (8).
  • Missouri State was named the NCAA Statistical Champion in shutout percentage (.684) with 13 clean sheets in a 19-game season.
  • Day was also named an NCAA Statistical Champion for a goals against average of .452 (eight goals in 1,593 minutes played). Her GAA also set a school record previously held by Alexis Stormo who recorded an average of .73 in 2004.
  • Head coach Kirk Nelson enters his third season leading the Bears. In his two years at the helm, he has led the team to an MVC tournament championship (2022) and the team’s best winning percentage (.763, 2023).
