After recording a top-five finish in his collegiate debut, Trent Mierl of the University of Missouri men’s golf team was honored as SEC Freshman of the Week, announced by the league on Wednesday.
In his first collegiate appearance, Mierl placed third overall at the Golfweek “Put Me In Coach” Invitational. The rookie carded an even-par 210 over the three-round tournament, highlighted by a final-day 67 that was the best score of all golfers during the round. Overall, he totaled 12 birdies, including a run of four-straight on the back nine in round three as he improved his ranking by seven spots.
Mierl is the first Mizzou freshman to receive the accolade since Alfons Bondesson did so during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Tigers return to action on Monday, September 30 when they compete at the Blessing Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Arkansas.
