COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri cross country will travel to Penn State to race in the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational for its second meet of the season on Friday, Sept. 13 at the Penn State Golf Course.
Rahel Brommell, Nicole Louw, Charlotte Cullen, Anneken Viljoen, McKenna Revord, Allison Newman, Hannah Stuart, Elissa Barnard, Renee Lewis and Natalie Barnard will compete in the women’s 6k at 9 a.m. CT. On the men’s side for the 5.2-mile race at 9:45 a.m., MU will be represented by Blake Morris, Austin Popplewell, Ryder James, Jamie Mora, Joshua Allison, Tyler Freiner, Angus Beer, Joseph Bariola, Andrew Smock and Drew Rogers.
The Nittany Lions will host Mizzou along with the following schools on the Blue and White Courses at the school’s golf course: Army, Bucknell, Columbia, Duquesne, Georgetown, Lehigh, Lock Haven, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Monmouth, Navy, Penn, Pittsburgh, Princeton, St. Joseph’s, Syracuse, Temple, UConn, UMBC, Buffalo and West Virginia. The Georgetown Hoyas will only be competing in the men’s race, while the Princeton Tigers and West Virginia Mountaineers will only have their women’s programs competing.
This will be the first meet that Penn State will host the Tigers since 2018. The last time the Tigers’ cross country teams competed in the state of Pennsylvania, the men’s team placed 15th and the women took home ninth at PSU’s University Park Course.
In Missouri’s season-opening competition at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, both teams won the event, highlighted by individual first-place finishes by Tyler Freiner (18:23.7) in the 6k race and Rahel Broemmel (17:34.8) during the women’s 5k. From his performance, Freiner earned Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week honors, marking his first weekly award from the SEC.
