COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri Tennis will kick off the 2024-25 fall season at the Penn Invitational in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 13-15. The Tigers are penciled in to face off against opponents the University of Pennsylvania, Syracuse University, St. Joseph University, University of Delaware, and Temple University at the Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers over the weekend’s competition.

The Tigers have two starters returning from last season: junior Andrea Artimedi and Inah Canete. Artimedi finished last season 7-11 in singles, competing primarily in the No. 6 spot and dominating nine matches in the No. 3 doubles slot. Last season, Canete grabbed four victories in the No. 2 singles slot and was 10-11 in doubles matches with her graduate sister, Mae Canete.

To round out the 2024-25 roster, Head Coach Bianca Turati pulled two transfers: Lailaa Bashir and Mary Brumfield. During her three years at Xavier University of Louisiana (NAIA), Bashir earned NAIA First-Team All-American honors in her 2020 season. The XULA transfer finished No. 1 in the NAIA’s doubles rankings and then continued to play at Bellarmine and Grand Canyon. Brumfield, coming to Mizzou from the University of Maryland, ranked as high as No. 40 in ITA doubles in February 2024. Totaling a 43-30 record in doubles competition, Brunfield grabbed a 21-24 mark in singles.

Additionally, Turati brought in three freshmen: Sarah Hartel, Gian Octa and Korina Roso. Hartel earned third place at the U18 German National Championships while attending Heidelberg College for high school. Octa ranked in the top 10 in the Canadian Junior National rankings (U12-U18) and was a J4 ITF Burlington Singles and Doubles finalist, a J5 ITF Niagara Doubles Champion and a J5 ITF Medford Singles semifinalist. Lastly, Roso secured the win at the International Tennis Federation J30 Moster Open 18&U in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she earned the title out of 32 competitors in September of 2023.

The Tigers are opening fall competition against a handful of opponents Mizzou has challenged in program history, pioneering the program series against Penn, St. Joseph, Delaware and Temple. The Black and Gold last took on Syracuse University in 2008 and claims a 3-1 program record against the Orange.
