CONWAY, Ark. – The Missouri State women’s tennis team wrapped up its first fall event of the year with the conclusion of the UCA Fall Invitational on Saturday.
Junior Billur Gonlusen finished the weekend with only one lost set. The junior dropped the first set, 6-1, against Murray State’s Yuna Kadowaki before taking the second set 7-5. Gonlusen ran up the score in the tiebreaker to win with a score of 10-5.
Gonlusen was also perfect in doubles with partner Tuana Gunal. The Turkish duo improved to 3-0 on the weekend with a 6-4 win over Bruna Melato and Barbora Hermanova from Murray State. Later in the day, the pair defeated UCA’s Ting-An Chen and Seohyun Park, 6-2.
Gunal also recorded her first singles win of the fall with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sam Houston’s Nayuma Subba.
Raluca Puscas and Nicole Ross rounded out the singles wins for the Bears. Puscas had her first win as a Bear with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Seohyun Park from UCA. Ross took the first set 6-4 against Sam Houston’s Jacqueline Schnabel. Schnabel battled back in the second set to win 3-6 before Ross won the tiebreaker 10-6.
Lucy Latham and Sandra Lukacova had the Bears’ other doubles win of the day with a battle against Adithi Venkata Krishnan and Christine Jevicky of Sam Houston. The Bears’ team came out on top with a 7-6 (5) win.
The Bears will head to their final Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championship from Oct. 4-6 at UIC.
