COLUMBIA, Mo. – Trailing by double digits early, the sixth-ranked University of Missouri football team scored 24 unanswered points to earn a 27-21 win against No. 24 Boston College in front of a sold-out crowd of 62,621 fans at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
With the win, the Tigers remain unbeaten at 3-0, while handing the Eagles their first defeat as Boston College is now 2-1.
Trailing, 14-3, just over five minutes in the second quarter, the Tigers scored the final 14 points of the frame to head into the break with a three-point advantage. Blake Craig pulled Mizzou within eight with a 38-yard field goal before Luther Burden III scored on a 19-yard catch and run with the ensuing two-point conversion squaring the contest at 14. Craig then added a 56-yard field goal as time expired for the three-point lead at the break.
Mizzou added to its advantage with the first 10 points of the second half. Brady Cook scored on a six-yard rush in the third with Craig adding his fourth field goal of the day to stretch the lead to 13. The Eagles added a consolation touchdown with 3:45 left but the Tigers held the ball the remainder of the game to seal the victory.
Cook completed 21-of-30 passes for one touchdown with Burden leading all receivers with six catches for 117 yards. The Tigers also ran for 176 yards with Nate Noel leading Mizzou with 121 yards on 22 carries.
The Tigers are back in action next weekend, opening SEC play versus Vanderbilt. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium will be at either 2:30 or 3:15 on Saturday afternoon.
