ST. LOUIS — Missouri State kicker Owen Rozanc (Sr., Sheffield Lake, Ohio) has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Missouri State’s place kicker accounted for 12 points with a pair of field goals and six extra points to help the Bears rout Western Illinois, 48-7, on Saturday and secure their first road victory of the campaign.
Rozanc’s efforts helped the Bears put points on the board in each of their first seven possessions in Macomb, including first-half field goals of 31 and 21 yards. The Bowling Green transfer’s performance extended his personal success streak to five straight made field goals on the season and 37 straight extra points converted in his career.
He ranks No. 31 on the NCAA’s active field goals list (41) among all active college players (all levels) and currently ranks 18th nationally in the FCS ranks in field goals per game (1.33) and 24th in scoring per game (7.8).
The senior kicker is Missouri State’s second Valley Newcomer of the Week this season, joining running back Jayden Becks who earned the award on Sept. 25.
Other MVFC award winners this week are: RB Gaven Ziebarth of North Dakota (Offense); LB Isaiah Stalbird of South Dakota State (Defense); PK Will Leyland of South Dakota (Co-Special Teams); RB/KR Luke Skokna of North Dakota (Co-Special Teams).
The Bears return home this week to entertain Murray State at Robert W. Plaster Stadium at 2 p.m. for homecoming on the Springfield campus. Tickets for Saturday’s game are available at the Missouri State box office at Great Southern Bank Arena, (417) 836-7678, or at MissouriStateBears.com.
