Men’s Team Takes Third at Spiked Shoe Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – University of Missouri Cross Country continued its season on Friday morning as the men’s team took third place and the women finished in seventh at the Penn State Golf Course on Friday morning at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.

Three Tiger men finished in the top 25 individually, led by Ryder James. The sophomore took 18th after completing the 5.2-mile race in 25:31.2. He was joined by Drew Rogers and Blake Morris, who earned 22nd and 24th place finishes with times of 25:34.9 and 25:36.0 respectively. 

For the women, Sophomore Rahel Broemmel led the way for the Tigers women’s team for the second-straight meet, placing 21st with a time of 21:01.8. Nicole Louw finished with a 6k career-best of 21:20.8, shaving 19 seconds over her previous best of 21:39.8 at the 2023 SEC Championships. 

The Mizzou men earned 147 points to take third place, with finishes of 18th, 22nd, 24th, 36th and 47th. Syracuse took first with 31 points. The women’s team finished seventh with 217 points, with the host Penn State placing first with 42 points.

TOP TIGERS

  • Sophomore Rahel Broemmel earned her second-consecutive top-25 finish during the Spiked Shoe Invitational, ranking 21st in the field at 21:01.8.
  • Nicole Louw, a sophomore, set a new career-best in the 6k after earning a time of 21:20.8. 
  • Charlotte Cullen placed 41st individually and third amongst the Tigers in her first collegiate 6k race with a time of 21:27.7.
  • Ryder James led the way for the Tigers with a time of 25:31.2 in his first race of the year.
  • Sophomore Joshua Allison finished in 25:59.1 and 48th after taking second at the Mizzou XC Opener.
  • All four of the men’s team’s top finishers (Ryder James, Drew Rogers, Blake Morris and Jamie Mora) competed in their first race of the 2024 cross country season during the Spiked Shoe Invitational.
