COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri football will have a super guest at next week’s season-opening game at Memorial Stadium: The Kansas City Chiefs’ world championship trophy.
The NFL championship game trophy, secured by the Chiefs for the second straight year, will be on display before the Tigers’ Aug. 29 opener against Murray State along the stadium’s North Concourse. Starting at 5:30 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to take photos with the trophy through the game’s first quarter. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can find the trophy on the North Concourse between Gates 1 and 2E.
“This is a unique opportunity to showcase one of sport’s most recognizable symbols of excellence and honor our great partners in Kansas City,” Mizzou Director of Athletics Laird Veatch said. “We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off our season than inviting our in-state Chiefs’ iconic trophy to Memorial Stadium and celebrating the franchise’s most recent championship.”
The Chiefs’ trophy adds to what already promises to be an exciting day at Memorial Stadium. As announced last week, the halftime presentation will feature a light show powered by 300 drones in the night sky in collaboration with Marching Mizzou’s halftime performance. The drone show will be produced by Sky Elements, the country’s leading drone light show provider. The season opener also marks the debut of Memorial Stadium’s expanded North videoboard and improved sound system.
Led by Coach Eliah Drinkwitz, the 2023 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year, the No. 11 Tigers return 15 starters from last year’s team that defeated No. 7 Ohio State in the 88th Cotton Bowl Classic, including preseason All-American wide receiver Luther Burden III and Davey O’Brien Award candidate and quarterback Brady Cook.
