SPRINGFIELD, Mo – The Drury Invitational ended with a Panther win, 3-1 over Newman as Lauren Tyler set the program record for a single-game hitting percentage with .909.
The Panthers took control early in the first set and did not look back. Drury went on a 9-2 run to end the set. Newman responded with a strong second set, 25-15. Drury never led in the set. The Panthers were able to bounce back after a tough set and win again 25-10. A late 10-4 run for the Panthers was sparked by a Kyla Clubb kill followed by three straight serves from Gracie Kimrey. The battle in the fourth was back and forth to start before Drury pulled away at the 11-10 mark. The Jets made it close, but it was all Panthers, 25-17.
Lauren Tyler led the Panthers in kills, 10, and assists with 33 she was one dig away from her first career triple-double. Mailie Chretien and Kyla Clubb both recorded nine kills. Chretien led the team with 16 digs. Jenna LaBarge was next closet with 12. This win for the Panthers marked the same win total from the 2023 season.
Drury hits the road next weekend to face off with #17 Central Missouri (Sept. 20) and #9 Nebraska-Kearney (Sept. 21).
