SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– The Drury men’s cross country won their second event of the season and the DU women’s squad finished third at the Springfield Twilight run at the Betty and Bobby Allison Sports Complex in Springfield on Friday night. The event, co-hosted by Missouri State, Drury and Evangel, was the first collegiate cross country event in Springfield in 12 years.
Drury’s men’s team finished first in a field of five teams. The Panthers had four runners finish in the top six and had 23 points. Southwest Baptist was second with 46 points.
Tyler Harris, a sophomore from Springfield-Kickapoo, won the eight-kilometer race in 25:22.16 in a field of 56 runners. Ethan Hayes was third (25:55.04), Colby Garner was fourth (25:58.68), and Kyle Keltner was sixth with a time of 26:08.03. Logan Richard rounded out Drury’s scorers, finishing 15th (26:43.70).
The Drury women’s team was third among six teams as the Panthers finished with 92 points. Missouri State won the women’s event with 28 points, while Southwest Baptist was just one point back in second with 29.
Josie Diffendaffer, a junior from Berthoud, Colorado, was Drury’s top finisher in the five-kilometer event as she came in 18th among 55 runners with a time of 19:16.59. Ashley Sexton was 22nd (19:34.51), Alexis Workman was 26th (19:49.04), Jasmyn Douglas was right behind in 27th (19:49.14) and Georgi Carolus was 33rd (20:01.05).
