Drury downs Missouri-St. Louis to open GLVC schedule

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury scored two second-half goals to win their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener 2-1 over Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday afternoon at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
 
The Panther improved to 3-0-1 and 1-0 in the GLVC, while the Tritons suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1 and 0-1 in the conference.
 
Drury struck twice with two goals less than three minutes apart early in the second half. The Panthers got on the board with a goal from Kourtney Tucker, the second of the year for the Springfield-Central product, in the 63rd minute. Leah McDonald then gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead with her second goal of the season in the 66th minute on an assist from Tucker.
 
Missouri-St. Louis threatened late as Jada Holloman scored her fifth goal of the year with 1:18 remaining to pull the Tritons within a goal, but Drury hung on for the win.
 
Katy Fitzler (3-0-1) made three saves in the win as Drury put up seven shots on goal to UMSL’s four.
 
The Panthers play again on Wednesday as they step out of conference to take on Emporia State for a 2 pm game in Emporia, Kan.
