Drury battles Emporia St. to a 1-1 tie

EMPORIA, Kan.– Emporia State got a late goal and forged a 1-1 tie at home against Drury on Wednesday afternoon in Emporia, Kansas.
 
The Panthers stayed unbeaten, going to 3-0-2, while the Hornets, who are the defending champions in the MIAA, sent their record to 2-2-1.
 
Ines Villanueva Casal scored Drury’s only goal as she converted on a penalty kick in the 41st minute. The goal was the second of the year for the senior from Spain.
 
Emporia State managed to draw even with 8:29 remaining as the Hornets scored on an own goal by the Panthers.
 
Drury put up three shots in the final three minutes, but all were off-target. The Panthers outshot Emporia State 22-5 and had eight shots on goal to the Hornets two. Holland Hawkins had five shots with two on goal to lead Drury.
 
The Panthers return to their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule on Friday and will play Lincoln for the first time in program history. Game time is at 5 pm in Jefferson City, Missouri.
