Schreuders, Secchi Set to Compete in Paris 2024 Olympics

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former University of Missouri swimmers Mikel Schreuders and Clement Secchi will ascend to the world stage over the next five days when they compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games..

Shreuders, a three-time Olympian, will be representing Aruba, while Secchi will be swimming for the host French National Team. Schreuders, an Oranjestad, Aruba native, will open his competitive slate in France Tuesday (July 30) morning with the preliminary round in the 100m free, followed by Thursday’s (August 1) qualifying in the 50m free. Secchi, a native of Aix-en-Provence, France, will compete in the 100 butterfly, beginning with preliminary heats on Friday (August 2) morning.

Schreuders currently holds Mizzou’s 200 freestyle record and was a part of the top 200 and 400 free relays. In Paris, he will be competing in the 100m and 50m freestyle for Aruba. He holds the Aruban records in the 50m, 100m, 200m, and 400m free events. Schreuders competed in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Games, placing 45th overall in the 200 meters in Rio.

A 13-time All-America honoree during his four-year career at Mizzou (2016-19), Schreuders claimed the Tigers’ first-ever individual Southeastern Conference title with his win in the 200-meter freestyle (1:31.27) in 2019. He went on to finish eighth at the NCAA Championships to secure first-team All-America laurels. Schreuders also swam on Mizzou’s 400-meter medley relay team that won the SEC crown and helped the Tigers to three top 25 team finishes at NCAA meets (2016, 2018 and 2019) during his career.

A three-time honorable mention All-America honoree in his lone season as a Tiger (2023), Secchi ranks among the top five all-time at Mizzou in the 100 back, 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 back. A first-time Olympic qualifier, he captured the 200 fly (1:41.07) at the 2023 SEC Championships, before finishing 14th in the same event at the NCAA Championships.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will be broadcast through NBC networks.
