Panthers add guard PJ Ngambi to signing class

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury men’s basketball head coach Chris Foster added to his 2023-24 recruiting class with the signing of guard PJ Ngambi, a junior college transfer from Casper College in Wyoming.

Ngambi averaged 12.9 points and 4.3 assists in his final season at Casper. The 6-2, 170-pound point guard played 30 games for the Thunderbirds and shot 45 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free throw line going 91 for 117 from the stripe.

“PJ is a true point guard with a high basketball IQ,” said Foster. “He has had success at every stop of his basketball journey. His experience at the point guard position will provide our team stability and make the game easier for everyone on the floor. He brings a toughness to the game as well as the ability to create offense for himself and his teammates. We are excited to welcome PJ to the Drury Basketball Family.”

The Omaha, Nebraska, native started his college career at Iowa Central Community College and averaged 18.4 points with 3.1 assists per game in his season with the Tritons. He was named to the All-Region XI that season and his 404 points scored that year was ranked ninth in the Iowa Community College Athletic Association.

Ngambi played for Westside High School in Omaha and was a four-year letterman on the varsity squad. He was named Third Team All-State in Nebraska in his senior year as he put up 14.8 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.1 rebounds while helping his team to a 19-7 record, a district championship and fifth place finish in the state. Westside finished third in the state in Ngambi’s junior season and he hit a game-winning shot at the buzzer to beat Millard North in the postseason that was featured as the Play of the Day on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Feb. 27, 2019.

Ngambi, who will be a sophomore in eligibility next year at Drury, joins a signing class that includes Juok Riak (Fr., F, 6-8, 230, Madison, Wisc., We Are United Prep), Colin Hardrick (Fr., G, 6-4, 175, Milwaukee, Wisc., We Are United Prep), and Ryan Gordon (Jr., F, 6-6, 215, Little Rock, Ark., Johnson Co. CC / Little Rock Parkview HS). Those four newcomers will add to a Drury roster that returns eight lettermen and three redshirt freshmen from last year’s team.
