Brooks Sunny named Academic All-District

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—  Drury shortstop Brooks Sunny was named to the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Communicators (formally CoSIDA) for his achievements on the field and in the classroom during the 2023 season.

Sunny led the Panthers in hitting as he posted a .358 average, hit 10 home runs, and drove in 34. The Eldridge, Iowa, native had a .544 on-base percentage with a .667 slugging percentage. Sunny had one of Drury’s biggest hits of the year when in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament and with the Panthers down to their final out, he drove in two runs in the ninth to force extra-innings in what turned out to be a 6-3, 11-inning win over Maryville. Drury won their next two postseason games and advanced to the conference championship game. The graduate student transferred to Drury from Arkansas-Fort Smith is pursuing a Master’s of Business Administration and carries a 4.0 grade point average.

All eligible nominees earn the honor with a minimum of a 3.50 undergraduate or graduate GPA required in addition to their performance on the field. Those selected for the Academic All-District become eligible for Academic All-American honors.

The Panthers finished the season with a 30-24 record and advanced to the GLVC championship for the sixth time in program history.
