Three swimmers named Academic All-Americans

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Three members of the Drury men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams were named NCAA-II Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA). Andrew Rodriguez and Dominik Karacic from Drury’s men’s team and Claire Conover was from the women’s squad were honored for their achievements in the pool as well as the classroom.
 
Andrew Rodriguez, a graduate student from Ripon, Wisconsin, placed second in the 200 Yard Butterfly, fourth in the 200 Yard IM, fifth in the 200 Backstroke, and eighth in the 400 IM at the NCAA-II National Championships. At the GLVC Championships, he was a member of the third-place 200 freestyle relay and placed third in the 200 Butterfly and third in the 200 Backstroke. Rodriguez has a 4.00 grade point average while working toward a Master’s degree in Integrated Leadership.
 
Dominik Karacic, a senior from Zagreb, Croatia, was a member of the national champion 200 IM Relay team and the national runner-up 400 Medley Relay team. He was also a member of the sixth-place 800 Freestyle Relay team and the sixth-place 200 Freestyle Relay team. Individually, Karacic finished tied for fourth in the 200 Butterfly and placed sixth in the 100 Butterfly. At the GLVC Championships, Karacic was a member of the conference champion 400 Medley Relay team, runner-up 800 Freestyle Relay team, and third-place 400 Freestyle Relay team. He was runner-up in the 200 Butterfly, fifth in the 100 Butterfly, and seventh in the 50 Freestyle. An economics major, Karacic carries a 3.75 GPA.
 
Claire Conover, a sophomore from Wichita, Kansas, was the GLVC Women’s Swimmer of the Year. At the NCAA-II National Championships, she placed third in the 200 Breaststroke, fourth in the 200 IM, and was a member of the fifth-place 400 Medley Relay team. At the GLVC Championships, Conover was the conference champion in the 400 IM, 100 Breaststroke, and 200 Breaststroke, and she was runner-up in the 200 IM. She won a conference title on the 400 Medley Relay team and was a runner-up on the 200 Medley Relay team. Conover carries a 3.86 GPA while pursuing a degree in Biology.
 
The Drury men’s swimming & diving team finished the NCAA-II Runner-Up, while the DU women’s team finished third at the national meet in Indianapolis, Indiana.
