Panthers start weekend with win over Rockhurst

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury women’s tennis team started their weekend with a 5-2 win over Rockhurst on Friday at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
 
The 23rd ranked Panthers improved to 10-2 and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks fell to 6-7 and 1-1 in the GLVC.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead, winning two of the three doubles matches. Maria Espejo and Victoriya Zheleva shut out their opponent 6-0, and Drury’s top doubles squad of Kseniia Eremina and Ewa Samberger picked up a 7-5 win to clinch the point.
 
Samberger, playing in Drury’s lead singles position, swept past Andjela Vukcevic 6-0, 6-0, and Alam Abazi battled to a three-set win, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, over Valentine Limauge. Natasia Jedrychowski and Kseniia Eremina both earned wins giving the Panthers four victories during singles play.
 
Drury will celebrate Senior Day in their next match on Saturday when they host William Jewell. The match starts at 11 am at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
