The Drury Dozen is an annual list of our favorite moments of the year from Drury Athletics. The list is not necessarily the most significant events but the special games and moments we’ll always associate with 2023-24 as chosen by the Drury Athletics sports communications staff.
We’ll provide honorable mention selections later in the countdown, but for now, here is our number nine moment from 2023-24:
#9 – Drury men’s tennis upends No. 21 McKendree to reach GLVC finals
May 4, 2024 – GLVC Semifinals, Cooper Tennis Complex
Drury and McKendree met in the GLVC semifinals in a battle of two top 25 teams. The Panthers were ranked 24th and McKendree entered in the postseason ranked 21st and the winner would advance to the conference championship match the next day.
Drury grabbed the first point winning two doubles matches with each of the three tightly contested match-ups. The Panthers then pulled off a sweep with three singles wins as Chuy Gonzelez, Slyvain Garin-Michaud, and Marlon Wilken all posted three impressive wins.
