Keegan O’Toole Tabbed Academic All-America Third Team By CSC

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri wrestler Keegan O’Toole was tabbed Academic All-America Third Team by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday, July 17. The junior earns the award for the second time, having claimed second-team honors last season.

O’Toole is the sixth wrestler in Mizzou program history (11 total) to earn Academic All-America accolades as voted on by the CSC. The Hartland, Wisconsin native, joins Tiger Style greats Bobby Crawford (1988 & 1990), Greg Warren (1991), Shaon Fry (1992 & 1993), Kenny Burleson (2004) and Tyler McCormick (2006, 2007 & 2008).

A dynamic presence on the mat, O’Toole demonstrated his prowess with a 24-1 overall record and 15 wins via bonus points in 2023-24. The junior’s 10 falls topped the squad, as did his 85 takedowns and 332 total points scored. The grappler totaled nine wins over ranked opponents throughout the regular season, including a win over No. 5 Edmond Ruth, where he bumped up to 174 pounds for the dual against Illinois.

O’Toole claimed the Big 12 Championship at 165 pounds, marking his second Big 12 title (2021) and third overall (MAC – 2020).

Qualifying for his fourth NCAA Championship, O’Toole pinned his first three opponents and ultimately earned the prestigious Gorrarian Award for most falls in the tournament. The Tiger joined former wrestling standout Ben Askren as the only ones in program history to finish in the top three in four consecutive NCAA championship appearances, as O’Toole earned third place and his fourth All-American honors.

O’Toole is one of six wrestlers to earn a spot on the three Academic All-America At-Large teams. To qualify, a wrestler must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and have participated in 60 percent of the team-scored matches.
