Mellie Wijk named GLVC Student-Athlete of the Year for women’s swimming & diving

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury women’s swimming Mellie Wijk was named the 2023-24 Great Lakes Valley Conference Student-Athlete of the Year for women’s swimming & diving.

The award is based on athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance during the season upon which the award is based. Each GLVC member has the opportunity to nominate one individual from their team for the award. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average that meets a 3.30, and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.

The junior from Stockholm, Sweden, was the GLVC Swimmer of the Year after winning six individual conference championships with one second-place finish and she helped her team to their eighth league title in team history. At the NCAA-II National Championships, Wijk earned All-America honors in seven events and racked up the fifth most points at the national meet. She was the national runner-up in the 200 Fly and the 400 Free Relay as the Panthers finished third nationally.

Earlier this year, Wijk was named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators and was an Academic All-District selection by the CSC. Earlier this week, she also earned Academic All-GLVC honors.
