Missouri State Athletics Adds Sydney Wilson to Staff

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State Athletics has added former women’s basketball standout Sydney Wilson to its staff as she assumes the role of Director of Student-Athlete Development and Inclusive Excellence. She begins her duties on June 17.

Wilson spent last year serving as a Sports Operation intern for the Missouri Valley Conference following her graduation from Missouri State. As a member of the Valley staff, she served as a liaison for the Student-Athlete Basketball Engagement Group and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to help foster communication and collaboration between student-athletes, coaches and athletics administrators.

Her other roles at the MVC included planning and implementing strategies to increase fan engagement for the MVC basketball championships, communicating with MVC institutions to facilitate the nomination and selection process for special Valley awards and working with numerous MVC sport championships to ensure the best experience for student-athletes.

An alumni of Missouri State, Wilson earned both a bachelor’s degree in General Business and a master’s degree in Business Administration, and she was a member of the women’s basketball team for five seasons.

A native of Overland Park, Kan., Wilson accumulated 1,158 points, 632 rebounds, 255 assists and 166 steals in 154 games for the Lady Bears. She ranks second all-time in program history with 119 career victories and she became just the 16th Lady Bear to record 1,000 career points and 600 career rebounds. Wilson was a five-time member of the MVC Academic Honor Roll, a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention and three-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award during her career.

Her hire is contingent upon formal approval by the Missouri State University Board of Governors at its next scheduled meeting.
