COAL VALLEY, Ill.— The Drury Panthers are in fifth place after the first round of play at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship held at the 6,033-yard, par-71 Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois on Friday.
Rain delayed the first round and affected play and scores on Friday but fifth-ranked Indianapolis recovered after a slow start to lead after 18 holes with a +36, 320. Maryville and Quincy are both five strokes back and tied for second, while Missouri-St. Louis is in fourth at 42-over-par. The Panthers are seven strokes behind UMSL for the fourth and final Match Play Tournament spot. The top four teams, after three rounds of stroke play, will advance to a match-play tournament on Sunday.
Taryn Overstreet leads Drury and is tied for fifth in the tournament after shooting a +9, 80 on Friday. Overstreet will go into the second day of the event three shots back tournament leader Matilda Cederholm from Indianapolis.
Reagan Martin is tied for 15th (+11, 82), Abby Howard is tied for 26th (+14, 85) and Grace Stafford is tied for 31st (+15, 86). Isabelle Thrall is tied for 36th at +16 (87).
The second and third rounds of the tournament are scheduled for Saturday and play begins at 8:30 am in Coal Valley, Illinois.
