Drury stifled by Maryville

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Maryville opened their series at Drury by holding the Panthers to three hits in a 5-1 win on Friday at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
 
The Saints moved even with Drury in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings as both teams went to 21-8 in league play. Maryville raised their record to 29-14 overall, while Drury went to 24-18.
 
Maryville starter Jacob Kroeger went 5-0 as he went 8.1 innings allowing three hits and one run with three walks and 12 strikeouts.
 
The Saints scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the third, fourth and seventh.
 
Drury scored their lone run in the ninth, after back-to-back doubles by Luke Burk and Wes Collins. Collins picked up the RBI as he drove in Burk, who had two of Drury’s three hits.
 
The game was originally scheduled for 5 pm but pushed back to a 9 pm start after heavy rain in Springfield. The contest concluded at 11:46 pm.
 
The two teams resume their series on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for a 1 pm start at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
