Sylvain Garin-Michaud named GLVC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury’s Sylvain Garin-Michaud was Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men’s tennis for his performance the week of April 15-22.

This award is the second of Garin-Michaud’s career, with the first coming the week of April 12, 2022. Lucas Rieber is the previous Panther to win this award, with his nod coming the week of March 26, 2024.

Garin-Michaud went a combined 4-0 last week, improving his singles record to 13-3 and his doubles record to 10-4. Sylvain won both his doubles matches and singles matches as the Panthers went 2-0 for the week. The senior from Saint Etienne, France, was paired in doubles with Chuy Gonzalez and won 7-6 (8-6) over the number 2 ranked NAIA doubles team from William Woods and the duo defeated the number 26 ranked doubles team from Southwest Baptist, 6-3 on Saturday.

Playing in the number two singles position on Friday, Garin-Michaud defeated the NAIA’s number 50 singles player Ben Grumley (7-5, 3-6, 1-0), then picked up another singles win against Southwest Baptist’s Alejandro Sanchez (6-0, 7-5).

Drury is 13-3 after sweeping the weekends matchups against William Woods (6-1) and Southwest Baptist (5-2). The Panthers travel to Quincy on Saturday to conclude the regular season. The Panthers will compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships May 3-5 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield Missouri.
