WARRENSBURG, Mo.— Second-ranked Central Missouri pulled away from Drury with a seven-run sixth inning on their way to a 12-2 win over Drury on Tuesday at Crane Stadium in Warrensburg.
The Mules improved to 41-5, while the Panthers went to 24-17.
Drury took a 2-1 lead in the second inning on a two-RBI single by Landon Willbrand. Central Missouri tied the game in the third with a run and took the lead for good with a pair of runs an inning later.
Willbrand finished the game going 2 for 3, while Brandon Holdren also went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Brett Grupe was 3 for 3 with three runs, an RBI and a double for the Mules.
Egan Keeler (1-0) got the in relief for Central Missouri and Gage Hayes (1-2) took the loss for the Panthers.
Drury was playing their seventh game this season against a ranked team. The Panthers have two wins this season against teams in the top 25.
Drury returns to conference play this weekend when they host Maryville in a four-game series scheduled to start on Friday. The Panthers will enter the weekend one game out of first place in the GLVC standings and own a one-game lead for Maryville for second. The first pitch is slated for 5 pm on Friday at Mark Worley Field at Meador Park.
