Mellie Wijk named First Team Academic All-American

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury women’s swimmer Mellie Wijk was named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (previously known as CoSIDA) on Tuesday. The award combines academic and athletic success in the 2023-24 season. Those eligible must have a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in addition to producing outstanding achievements in the pool during the season.
 
Wijk was the Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimmer of the Year this season, winning six conference titles and finishing in second once. At the NCAA-II National Championship, she ranked fifth in the nation in points accumulated and was the national runner-up in the 200 Fly and on the 400 Free Relay team. She earned seven All-American awards and came in third in three events.
 
The junior from Stockholm, Sweden, is a Communications major with a 3.76 grade point average. Ten swimming & diving individuals were named to the NCAA-II CSC Academic All-American First Team, with ten more selected to the Second Team and another ten named to the Third Team. Wijk was previously named an Academic All-District honoree by the CSC and, last year was named an Academic All-GLVC performer.
 
The Drury women’s swimming & diving team won the GLVC Championship in 2024 and finished third in the nation.
