Hunter Jowers finishes as GLVC Runner-Up; Panthers tie for 5th

SMITHVILLE, Mo.— Drury men’s golfer Hunter Jowers finished second, and the Panthers tied for fifth as a team at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship at the par-72, 6,938-yard Outlaw Golf Course at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri on Monday.
 
Jowers finished 54 holes from stroke play with a two-under-par 214 and ended the tournament one shot behind medalist Cyril Henault from Missouri-St. Louis. Jowers was three-par after 36 holes on Sunday and entered Monday’s final round tied for fourth. The junior from Jonesboro, Arkansas, made up a three-shot deficit during the tournament and forged a three-way tie for the tournament lead with three holes remaining. Henault, who was tied for first at the start of the third round, held off the field to win and finished with a three-under-par 213. Jowers finished one shot ahead of Missouri S&T’s Carl Miltun, who came in third.
 
Jowers was named a First Team All-GLVC selection as a result of his second place finish. It marked the first time since 2019 that the Panthers have landed an all-conference performer.
 
Drury shot a +39, 903 as a team and tied for fifth with William Jewell. The Panthers started Monday’s round tied for sixth but moved up one spot in the final 18 holes. Indianapolis finished first and was four-over-par. Missouri-St. Louis was second (+15, 879), 22nd round Missouri S&T (+16, 880) was third, and McKendree (+32, 896) came in fourth.
 
After Jowers’ runner-up finish, Alex Wiseman tied for 17th as he posted a two-over-par 74 in all three rounds to finish with a +6, 222. Clayton Kaiser tied for 40th with a +17, 233. Tryn Titus came in 44th (+19, 235), and Gaige Lewis tied for 49th (+27, 243).
 
The top four teams in the 54-hole stroke play tournament advance to the match play tournament on Tuesday. The Panthers missed the match play round by seven shots.
