Panthers get past Rockhurst to open GLVC slate

 
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Playing their first match in two weeks, the 20^th ranked Drury Panthers opened their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a 4-3 win over Rockhurst at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
 
Drury improved to 10-3 and 1-0 in the GLVC, while the Hawks fell to 7-8 and 0-1 in the league.
 
Rockhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead, winning two of the three doubles matches. Sylvain Garin-Michaud and Chuy Gonzalez got the lone Drury win in doubles with a 6-1 win over Josef Truhlar and Louis Keiner.
 
The match was decided in the number six singles match as Mark Drozdetskii outlasted Josef Truhlar 6-3, 6-7 (0-7), 6-2.
 
Yaroslav Sharyy, ranked 20^th nationally in singles, defeated 46^th ranked Louis Keiner, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Sharry, Drury’s leading singles player, kept his spring record perfect as he improved to 10-0. 63^rd ranked Marlon Wilken also won, defeating Alex Tikhomov, 6-4, 6-2. Lukas Rieber also picked up a win as he out-dueled Diego Schtulmann, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
 
The Panthers are back at home tomorrow when they host William Jewell at noon at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
