Golfers Wind Up Fourth at Big Blue

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. — The Missouri State men’s golf team finished fourth of 13 teams Tuesday at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate in suburban Nashville. Tied for the lead entering the day, the Bears shot 291 in the final round and watched as Belmont and Samford stormed from behind to tie for the team championship.

MSU totaled 866 in three trips around the President’s Reserve Course at The Hermitage and came up eight strokes short of the co-champs and two behind third-place Austin Peay, which shared the lead with the Bears at the beginning of the day. SIU-Edwardsville, Evansville, Florida A&M, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Miles and host Tennessee State rounded out the top 10.

Senior Hampus Wijkstrom led the way for MSU, carding 69-72-71–212 for the tournament to finish fifth overall. Seniors Max Kreikemeier and Eric Schuessler placed eighth and 10th, respectively. Kreikemeier shot 72-69-73–214, while Schuessler posted 68-73-74–215. Freshman Andrew Fallis tied for 37th while playing as an individual, carding 79-74-72–225, with Christian Rischer finishing 51st after shooting 80-76-73–229 and Ludvig Wijkstrom posting 76-79-75–230 to tie for 57th.

The Bears are back on the road Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 13-14) for the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
