Hunter Jowers and the Panthers win the Flyers Spring Invitational

WHEATON, ILL.— Drury defended their first-round lead and won the Flyers Spring Invitational by 24 shots on Saturday, at the par-72, Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois. The Panthers started today’s final round with a 6-shot lead over 2nd place William Jewell and were 11 shots clear of 3rd place Quincy. The Panthers not only defended their lead, but ran away with the tournament, shooting a team score of 292 on Saturday.
 
Drury was the only team of the nine in contention that shot a combined score of five over par or under, during both days of the event. The Panthers finished the tournament with a total score of 582 (+6) and were 24 shots ahead of William Jewell and Parkland, who tied for second place with a score of 606. Illinois Springfield finished in 4th place with a score of 613.
 
Hunter Jowers followed up his historic opening round yesterday with a two under par round of 70 on Saturday. The Jonesboro, Arkansas native won the tournament individually, starting the day tied for first with Bryson Oots of William Jewell, but was clutch down the stretch to capture the victory. Senior Clayton Kaiser finished in 3rd after carding a final round of 74 (+2).
 
Tryn Titus climbed from 20th all the way to 6th after a round of 71 (-1). Alex Wiseman finished tied 9th after ending with a round of 77 (+5) and Wil Claywell tied for 17th after shooting 80 (+8). Walker Serrano finished 36th after carding a round of 83 (+11).
 
The Panthers will be back in action on April 15th when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee to play in the Trevecca Spring Invite.
