K-State Tops Baseball Bears, 8-4

SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State baseball team was unable to overcome an early 5-0 deficit to Kansas State Wednesday at Hammons Field in an 8-4 loss.

The game included 15 total pitchers used, 16 combined walks and 24 strikeouts. For their part, the Bears (11-16) fanned a season-high 13 batters, with Dalen Stewart and Michael Lindsey each striking out the side in their respective innings. Eric Loomis and Stephen Schissler also had scoreless outings for the MSU pitching staff.

Kansas State (19-8) scored twice in both the first and second innings and again in the fourth to lead 5-0 before the Bears got on the board thanks to a Logan Chambers RBI single in the fourth.

Dylan Leach hit a leadoff double in the sixth and scored on a Nick Rodriguez ground out, then three straight Bears reached with one out to load the bases, setting the table for a Tyler Epstein RBI single and Caden Bogenpohl RBI walk to make it 5-4.

Kansas State answered with a leadoff homer in the seventh and took advantage of two walks and a single by the next three batters to score twice more and make it 8-4.

Chambers logged the only multi-hit game for Missouri State with a 2-for-4 game, and MSU held the high-powered Wildcats to 8-for-35 at the plate.

The Bears hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at Bradley. First pitch Friday is currently scheduled for 6 p.m.
