Ulrich Named MVC Newcomer of the Week

ST. LOUIS – Kayla Ulrich of Missouri State softball has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced today (April 2).

Ulrich continued her impressive freshman campaign across four games last week, which included a midweek matchup at No. 8 Oklahoma State and a three-game conference series against Murray State. The freshman infielder slashed .538/.923/.571 with two RBI, two doubles and a home run and a run scored across those four games. She owned a team-leading 12 total bases and was perfect in the field on the week.

On Tuesday at No. 8 Oklahoma State, Ulrich went 1-for-4 with a double. Across Friday’s doubleheader against Murray State, the freshman was 3-for-6 at the plate with a hit by pitch and sacrifice bunt. In the rubber match against the Racers, Ulrich was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, a double and a solo homer to account for all of the Bears’ RBI in the 2-0 series-clinching victory.

In the MVC, Ulrich ranks inside the top five in on-base percentage (4th – .468), batting average (5th – .373) and OPS (5th – 1.020), all of which lead Missouri State this season. In conference games, her slash line is an impressive .455/.697/.526, all team-highs for the Bears.

The award marks the first weekly honor or Ulrich’s career.

Missouri State is back in action tomorrow (April 3) with a midweek contest at Tulsa. First pitch against the Golden Hurricane is set for 5:00 p.m.
