Panthers win four events at SBU Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury’s outdoor track & field team won four events at the Southwest Baptist Invitational on Saturday in Bolivar. Jolie McClellan and Zoe Van Dijk from the women’s team took first with McClellan winning the javelin and Van Dijk took the first in the 3000 meter run. Men’s runner Cole Sutton won the 1500 while Tyler Harris won the 300 meter run.  
 
Men’s Highlights

  • Tyler Harris won the 3000 meter run and set a Drury record with a time of 8:29.24
  • The Panthers finished 1-2-3 and 6 in the 3000 meter run. After Harris’ first-place finish, Colby Garner was right behind with a time of 8:29.90, a mark that would have also set a program record and now ranks second all-time. Ethan Haynes was third and his time of 8:34.45 now ranks fourth-best in program history. Trent Patterson finished sixth with a time of 8:41.50, the fifth-best time ever for a Drury runner.
  • Cole Sutton won the 1500 meter run and ran the third-fastest time in program history as he took the event with a time of 3:51.72
  • Nolan Moeller was ninth in the 1500 (3:59.75) and William Kershaw finished 10th in the event (4:01.04)
  • Kyle Keltner came in ninth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.31, a mark that ranks fifth in Drury’s record book

 
Women’s Highlights

  • Jolie McClellan posted a javelin throw of 45.86 meters to win the event. The senior from Raymore, Missouri, broke a program record she had previously owned and the throw is also a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA-II national championships
  • Zoe Van Dijk took first place in the 3000 meter run and won the event by nearly 19 seconds. The senior from The Netherlands posted a time of 10:18.38 and won in a field of 24 runners. Her time ranks third in Drury history.
  • Ashley Childers finished third in the 200 meter dash. She also broke a team record she previously held with a time of 24.26 (her time at last week’s meet, the Springfield Showdown, was deemed wind-aided and unofficial). The senior from Ozark, Missouri, also posted a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA-II national championships
  • Georgi Carolus was seventh in the 800 meter run (2:24.54)
  • Luz Olivera came in 10th in a field of 27 runners in the 1500 meter run (5:03.23)

 
 
Drury’s track & field teams compete again in the 16th Annual David Suenram Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State on April 6 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
