Panthers win in 10th inning to sweep doubleheader from Upper Iowa

 SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury scored a run in the bottom of the 10th to close out a sweep of a doubleheader against Upper Iowa with a 5-1 victory in game one and a 3-2 win in 10 innings in game two on Friday at Thompson Field in Springfield, Missouri. 
 
The wins extended Drury’s winning streak to five games and raised the Panthers record to 17-18 and 5-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Peacocks fell to 11-20 and 1-5 in the GLVC.
 
Drury scored all five of their runs with two outs in game one in their 5-1 win over Upper Iowa. The Panthers scored two runs in the first, then two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Peacocks scored their only run in the fourth, but Drury extended their lead back to a four-run margin on an AJ Agers RBI-single in the bottom half of the inning.
 
Agers (3-4) got the win and pitched five innings, allowing three hits and one unearned run with no walks and one strikeout. Sophia Luetticke went 3 for 4 with a run, while Lauren Beier and Agers each had two RBIs in the win.
 
The Panthers won game two in 10 innings and clinched the win on a single by Rylee Kolb that hit third base and deflected into shallow left field and scored Luetticke scored from second base.
 
Kolb finished the game going 3 for 5 with two RBIs, and Luetticke was also 3 for 5 and scored twice.
 
Kristina Bettis (3-6) got the win in relief for the Panthers as she pitched the ninth and 10th innings. She got her team out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 9th as she snared a line-drive comebacker to end the threat.
 
 Kaley Adzick pitched eight innings for Drury in the start and allowed seven hits and two runs in a no-decision. Luetticke went 3 for 4 with two runs, including the game-winner in game two, and was 6 for 8 combined in the doubleheader.
 
Upper Iowa stranded 16 runners in the game, while the Panthers stranded 12.
 
Drury is back home again on Saturday when they host Truman State in a doubleheader starting a noon at Thompson Field.
