Four Lady Panthers named Academic All-District

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.–  Four Drury women’s basketball players were named to the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Communicators (formally CoSIDA). Caitlynn Daniels, Anna Hitt, Beth Matas Martin, and Reese Schaaf all received academic honors from the CSC for their accomplishments on the court and in the classroom in 2023-24. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes had to have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average and be a significant contributor to their team.

Daniels, a junior from Robins, Iowa, averaged 15.1 points and led the Great Lakes Valley Conference in assists, averaging 5.3 per games. She also averaged 6.3 rebounds and was among the nation’s best free throw shooters with a .874 percentage. Her 171 assists were the third-most in a single season in team history and she set the program’s single-game assist record with 13 on Feb. 15 against Missouri-St. Louis. Daniels is a Finance major and was a First Team All-GLVC selection earlier this year.

Anna Hitt also earned Academic All-District honors. The junior from Ozark, Missouri, was a Third Team All-GLVC selection and averaged 9.2 points and 4.6 rebounds. Hitt is a Biology major and ended her season scoring in double-figures in seven of her last nine games.

Beth Matas Martin was also an Academic All-District award winner. A native of Girona, Spain, Martin played for Quincy last season and was a graduate transfer to Drury in 2023-24. She was a First Team All-GLVC selection and averaged 15.5 points while shooting .424 from three-point range, the second-best mark in the league. Martin hit 86 three-pointers during the season, and the all-conference award was the third of her career.

Reese Schaaf earned Academic All-District honors as a sophomore. The El Dorado Springs native was named Player of the Year in the Midwest Region and Player of the Year in the GLVC. She was named an All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association. Schaaf averaged 16.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and shot .575 from the field. Her 18 double-doubles were the fifth-most in the nation in 2023-24 and she became the second player in program history to record 500 points and 300 rebounds in a single season.

Head coach Kaci Bailey, who completed her first year guiding the program, led the Lady Panthers to a 25-7 record and the program’s 21st NCAA-II Tournament appearance in their 24-year team history.
