10th ranked Indianapolis rallies past Panthers in doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— 10th ranked Indianapolis pulled away from Drury to win game one 10-1, then rallied with four runs in the sixth to take game two in a doubleheader sweep of the Panthers on Sunday at Thompson Field in Springfield.
 
Indianapolis ran their winning streak to 16 games and improved to 25-2 and 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury fell to 12-17 and 0-4 in the GLVC.
 
The Greyhounds took command of game one with five runs in the third inning, scoring on three RBI singles, a bases-loaded hit batter, and a sacrifice fly.
 
Drury’s lone run came in the fifth, when Brooklyn LaChoppa hit a one-out triple, then scored on a single by Taylor Hartsell.
 
Indianapolis added a run in the sixth, and three in the seventh. Greyhounds starter Kenzie Smith improved to 12-0 with the win, while Kristina Bettis (2-6) took the loss. Hartsell finished the game going 2 for 4 with a double and Drury’s lone RBI.
 
Game two was scoreless until the fifth when the Panthers struck for a pair of runs. Sophie Luetticke and Lauren Beier drove in runs with RBI singles off of UIndy pitcher Kenzie Smith, who came out of the bullpen in the fifth.
 
The Greyhounds took advantage of two Drury errors in the sixth and posted four runs in the frame. UIndy pulled even on a wild pitch, then a Shelby Cook two-RBI double gave her team a 4-2 lead.
 
Panthers starter Kaley Adzick got stuck with a no-decision after going five innings, allowing one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Bailee Nixon (6-2) took the loss in relief for Drury despite not allowing an earned run, while Smith got her second win of the day as she went to 13-0.
 
Lauren Beier was 2 for 3 at the plate for Drury with a double and an RBI, while Hartsell was 2 for 4 with a double and a run.
 
The Panthers are on the road for their next doubleheader as they travel to Maryville on Saturday.
