No. 7 Wrestling Drops Match At No. 16 Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Missouri wrestling team dropped a conference road match at No. 16 Northern Iowa, 31-6, on Friday, Feb. 23. 

Due to illness and injury, Missouri (10-3, 6-2 Big 12) had a limited lineup for the dual but remains focused on getting healthy for the Big 12 Championships. Redshirt sophomore Josh Edmond put Missouri on earned a win, upsetting the No. 7 Cael Happel by a 4-3 decision at 141 pounds. Additionally, redshirt senior Zach Elam picked up the win at 285, 4-1. 

MATCH NOTES 

• Missouri moves to 19-17 all-time against Northern Iowa and is 14-7 in the Brian Smith era. 
• Redshirt sophomores Jeremy Jakowitsch and Ellis Pfleger made their Mizzou dual debuts, wrestling at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. 
• No. 22 Edmond earned the upset win over Cael Happel at 141 pounds, marking his third-ranked win of the season and bringing his record to 11-6. 
• Elam tallied his team-leading 21st win of the season over Tyrell Gordon. Additionally, the Kansas City native moves to 4-0 in his career against Gordon. 

UP NEXT

The Tigers head to Ames, Iowa, to take on No. 5 Iowa State on Sunday, Feb. 25. The match will start at 2 p.m. CT and can be streamed on ESPN+.
