Drury splits first two games of Music City Invitational

SMYRNA, Tenn. – The Drury Panthers finished day one of the Music City Invitational with a 1-0 win against Trevecca Nazarene and a 5-2 loss against Tiffin.
 
The Panthers’ pitching staff was dominant against Trevecca Nazarene, allowing only three hits during the contest. AJ Agers and Bailee Nixon combined for six innings of shutout ball before Lauren Beier came in to get the save for Drury.
 
Drury scored the lone run of the game after Beier doubled to start the fourth inning. Lilly Hinson came in to pinch run, advanced to third and then scored on a Taylor Hartsell sacrifice fly.
 
Ashlan Sensing took the loss for Trevecca Nazarene, tossing seven innings and allowing one earned run. Bailee Nixon was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.

Game two saw the Panthers fall to Tiffin 5-2. It was another pitchers’ duel, with Drury starter Kristina Bettis tossing six innings and only allowing one run. The Panthers scored in the sixth to take a 1-0 lead heading into the seventh. Tiffin rallied, scoring five runs in the seventh. Drury would mount a small comeback in the bottom half of the inning, scoring one run, but ultimately falling short.
 
Jules King got the win for Tiffin, throwing seven innings without allowing an earned run and striking out seven. Lauren Beier took the loss in relief for the Panthers.
 
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow when they take on Gannon at 10 am, followed by a game against Cedarville at 12 pm.
