Panthers picked for 7th in GLVC preseason poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury was voted to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason softball coaches’ poll released by the GLVC on Tuesday.
 
The Panthers received 98 points in the poll, the seventh-most, while Indianapolis was selected to finish first in the conference, receiving 13 first place votes and 169 points. Lewis came in second with 146 total points and McKendree finished in third, with 137 total points and one first place vote.
 
The Panthers finished the 2023 season at 26-27 overall and 13-11 in the GLVC. Drury Softball will enter a new era in 2024 under first-year head coach Brooke Gajewski. Gajewski was named head coach on Sept. 1 and came to Drury from Milwaukee School of Engineering (NCAA-III), where her team went 32-11 in her first season as head coach. The Panthers return First Team All-GLVC selection, starting pitcher Kristina Bettis, and Second Team All-GLVC selection, outfielder Rylee Kolb.
 
The Panthers open the 2024 season in the Alvy Early Tournament in Bentonville, Ark., Feb. 9-10. Drury will open against 13th ranked Southern Arkansas on Feb. 9, then face a Harding team receiving votes later the same day. The Panthers open their home schedule, hosting the Drury Classic, March 1-3 at Thompson Field.
