Greenwood Blue and Gold Tournament Opening Round Scores and Quarterfinal Round Schedule

It didn’t take long for history to be made at the 78th Annual Greenwood Blue and Gold Basketball Tournament in Springfield Tuesday.

Ash Grove’s 6-3 senior Brady Nicholson set the all time Blue and Gold single game scoring record with a 50 point performance, leading the Pirates to an 82-80 win over Willow Springs.

Nicholson was a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line, including 9-9 in the 4th quarter.

The game was tight throughout, with the Bears leading 15-14 after one quarter and 39-23 at the half.

The Pirates took a 59-58 edge into the final period, with the teams trading the lead down the stretch.

Willow Springs sophomore Kolby James hit a bucket with 48 seconds left in regulation to put the Bears ahead 77-76.

The Pirates’ Kyler Reece put his team on top with a pair of free throws with 37 seconds remaining, 78-77.

Nicholson was fouled intentionally with 15.6 seconds on the clock, extending Ash Grove’s lead to three 80-77.

The scoring record came when Nicholson went back to the line with 12.9 seconds remaining, picking up points number 49 and 50.

Blue Division (opening round games played at Hammons Student Center):

Final: Mountain Grove 65, (8) Lebanon 62 (Mountain Grove’s Bradley Henry scores 29 points)

Final: (1) Nixa 72, Reeds Spring 19 (Josh Peters leads the way with 18 points as the Eagles hold the Wolves to one point in the second half).

Final: (5) Fair Grove 77, Aurora 64 (Tyler Barnett puts in 20 points for the Eagles, with sophomore Cannon Thornhill leading Aurora with 29 points).

Final: (4) Rogersville 71 Camdenton 45 (Chase Branum led the Wildcats with 23 points, while senior Jackson Basham’s 25 points led the way for the Lakers).

Final: (7) Catholic 61, West Plains 49 (C.J. Kendall’s 16 points and Ryder Rowden’s 15 lead the way for the Irish as Coach Jay Osborne extends his Blue and Gold record with his 79th win (79-26 mark with Pleasant Hope, Nixa and Catholic). Clayton Robbins’ 14 points leads the Zizzers.

Final: (2) Republic 71, Buffalo 51 (Republic’s James Rexroat scores 17 points to lead the Tigers). Carson Shepperly puts in 14 points for the Bison in a losing effort).

Final: (6) Willard 69, Bolivar 53 (Braxton Boyer and Nahmy Kelley each score 13 points to lead the Tigers, with Drake Durham putting in 18 for the Liberators).

Final: (3) Hartville 53, Stockton 25 (Senior Jalon Cryer led the way for the Eagles with 19 points).

Gold Division (opening round games played at Great Southern Bank Arena):

Final: (8) Ash Grove 82, Willow Springs 80 (Ash Grove’s Brady Nicholson’s 50 points break Blue and Gold single game scoring mark)

Final: (1) Springfield Central 86, Skyline 51 (Tyrique Brooks scores 24 points for the Bulldogs, with freshman Parker Owen leading the Tigers with 25 points)

Final: (5) Greenwood 64, Crane 40 (The Blue Jays get 22 points from Collin Clark and 21 points from Logan Sanders. Crane’s Owen Vaught hit a three quarter court shot at the 3rd quarter buzzer).

Final: (4) Sparta 61, Spokane 24 (Rowdy Ball led four Spartans players in double figures with 14 points)

Final: (7) Branson 45, Ava 24 (Jayce Culver and Brody Gillespie lead a balanced Branson scoring attack with 8 points each. Isaac Dalton leads the Bears with 17 points).

Final: (2) Ozark 75, Clever 32 (Hudson Roberts scores 15 to lead the Tigers, who went ahead 41-10 at halftime and coasted in the second half).

Final: (6) Strafford 57, Mt. Vernon 46 (Cody Voysey leads the Indians with 25 points. Jarrett Zerby paces the Mountaineers with 19 points).

Final: (3) Springfield Glendale 48, Marshfield 40 (The Falcons outscored Marshfield 17-4 in the 3rd quarter to take control of the contest. Ta’Veaion Washington’s 24 points led the Falcons. Tegen Curley had 20 points for the Jays).
