Drury returns home to face William Jewell 
The 12th-ranked Drury Lady Panthers are home on Thursday to face William Jewell at 7 pm in the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
 
Drury is 7-1 and 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after winning two of the three on the road last week to open league play. The Lady Panthers won at Quincy, 81-56, on Nov. 27, then lost at Lewis, 72-69 last Thursday, and ended the road swing with a 78-70 win at Indianapolis.
 
William Jewell is 2-6 and 1-2 in the GLVC. The Cardinals are coming off a 71-66 loss at McKendree on Saturday, but earned a win the game before, 77-67, at Missouri-St. Louis.
 
Drury has won 20 of the 23 all-time meetings and owns a 15-game winning streak in the series.
 
Beth Matas Martin leads Drury, averaging 16.1 points, while Reese Schaaf is putting up 14.5 points per game and averaging 6.5 rebounds. Schaaf has reached career-high totals in points and rebounds in back-to-back games, scoring 21 points with 11 boards at Lewis on Nov. 30, then totaling 27 points and 14 rebounds last Saturday at Indianapolis.
 
The Lady Panthers are back at home on Saturday when they host Southwest Baptist at 1 pm in the O’Reilly Family Event Center.
 
About William Jewell
William Jewell has a 1-2 start in the GLVC as they picked up a win last week at Missouri-St. Louis, 77-67. The Cardinals other win was a non-conference victory over Newman, 84-60, on Nov. 14 in Liberty.
 
First-year head coach Kyley Bachand leads William Jewell and is the first new head coach for that program in 27 years. Bachand was an assistant at Colorado State for the previous two seasons and served as an assistant coach at Eastern Illinois and Sioux Falls. She started her colliegate playing career at Missouri before transferring to Illinois.
 
Ayden Shannon leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.3 points, while Emree Zars is putting in 16.3 points per game. William Jewell guard Libby Arnold and Drury’s Caitlynn Daniels were high school teammates at Xavier HS in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Lady Panthers have won 15 straight against William Jewell with the last Cardinals win against Drury coming on Jan. 17, 2015, when the Lady Panthers lost 80-64 in Liberty. William Jewell’s last win at Drury was on Feb. 21, 2013 in a 71-64 Cardinals win.

The Drury Lady Panthers are ranked 12th in this week’s NCAA-II coaches’ poll. Drury went 2-1 last week and went from number six to 12th in this week’s rankings. Ashland remained the number one ranked team for the fourth straight poll. 
 
Milestone Watch – Martin closing in on 1,000 career points
Drury guard Beth Matas Martin is closing in on 1,000 career points at the NCAA level. The graduate student from Spain enters Thursday’s game with 915 points. Martin scored 786 points in two seasons at Quincy, and has 129 points this year with the Lady Panthers.
